The Riverdale Local School District Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting last night, where community members showed up in support of Junior High School and High School Principal Dan Evans.
Prior to the start of the meeting, Superintendent Greg Rossman approached former Hardin County Commissioner Candidate Michelle Laubis, stating that she was not allowed to record the meeting and that prior authorization to do so was required.
Laubis pushed back on being able to record a public meeting and after further discussion, the issue of recording was not brought up again and the meeting began.
The meeting opened with the recognition of outstanding individuals across the district, including Staff and Students of the Month.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, Riverdale community member Angela Miller spoke on behalf of Dan Evans, publicly voicing her support and appreciation for his leadership.
Community members were lined up around the room, some wearing T-shirts that were in support of Mr. Evans, as many feel he is being pushed out of his position against the feedback and wishes of many students, faculty and community members.
A recent job posting from the district included his position being open for the upcoming school year, seemingly a surprise to much of the Falcon community.
Prior to Angela Miller speaking, Board President Ashley Walters stated “I’m just reminding that this is her addressing the board. This is not a conversation that the board will have with the public at this time.”
Angela Miller went on to give an emotional speech to the Board, reflecting on the high emotions and confusion being felt within the Falcon community. “It is important to clarify that the perception within this community is that a few Board members want Mr. Evans replaced due to personal bias. These members have publicly discredited him based on their own personal agendas and political opinions, which is unacceptable. A fair and unbiased Board seeking genuine change would have outlined constructive steps for educational improvement in our district.”
Miller pressed on and reminded the Board, “For transparency, the community wants to hear the conversation regarding Mr. Evan’s position. Have you considered holding a public forum to receive community feedback? I have consistently voted yes for your levies without hesitation and actively shared supportive posts each time. This room is filled with yes votes, but actions like not renewing an outstanding leader can quickly turn those into no votes. We do not want to take a step back, especially as we approach an important levy vote. So I hope Mr. Rossman renews Mr. Evans, and this board will support him without pause.”
After Angela Miller addressed the Board, members continued with the agenda.
The board approved a 2026 music department trip to Ontario, along with multiple personnel actions.
In addition, several board policy revisions were also adopted.
The board also accepted the retirement and severance request from Dr. Julie Greer, elementary principal.
The evening concluded with an executive session before the Board adjourned.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for April 28.
