An early morning shooting incident in Marion on Sunday has led to an ongoing investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), following a confrontation between law enforcement and a local suspect.
According to a joint release from Marion Police Chief Jay McDonald and Marion County Sheriff Matt Bayles, officers responded to reports of gunfire near the OK Cafe early Sunday morning. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Jared Scheck of Marion, was located at his residence shortly afterward.
Upon arrival, Scheck reportedly fired at officers, prompting a Marion police officer and a Marion County sheriff’s deputy to return fire. Scheck was struck multiple times. Officers rendered first aid at the scene before Scheck was transported to Marion General Hospital and later flown to Columbus. He is expected to survive.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to handle the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. No officers were injured during the encounter.
Officials acknowledged the risks faced daily by law enforcement and directed any further inquiries to the BCI-Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
