UF to Host 2019 Ohio Student Sustainability Leaders Conference

On Saturday, Oct. 5, University of Findlay’s Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability Program will host the 2019 Ohio Student Sustainability Leaders Conference, themed Sustainability Across Careers.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Winebrenner Building and a complimentary breakfast and lunch are offered.

Registration for this National Council of Science and the Environment (NCSE) student conference is free for NCSE member institutions and high school students, while registration fees for all other institutions is $25 for students and $50 for faculty. Registration is required.

The keynote speaker is Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) director Laurie Stevenson. She previously served as the industrial liaison in the Director’s Office and managed Ohio EPA’s Small Business Assistance Office (SBAO).

Several other speakers will be presenting at the event, including; Kristin Susick, FirstEnergy Sustainability supervisor; Vincent Valentino, Land Grand Brewery sustainability manager; Amy Schlessman, physical therapy professor and author of “Recycle Bin Boogie: Move and Learn with Recyclables”; and Orion Jones, UF physical plant director. An undergraduate student research poster presentation session will also take place. The winner of the poster section will be awarded free registration to the 2020 NCSE Annual Conference in Washington D.C.

The conference is a student-run, student-centric event celebrating student contributions to the interdisciplinary field of sustainability, and supports student sustainability leaders in both research and career development. This conference is an annual event organized by University of Findlay, Oberlin College, University of Dayton, University of Toledo, The Ohio State University, and the National Council for Science and the Environment.
