It came down to the wire on Friday, as the Wildcats grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 5-4, over the Wapakoneta Redskins. The game was tied at 4 in the bottom of the 9th when senior Brynn Butler singled, scoring the go-ahead run.

The bottom of the lineup was strong for Kenton. Cailyn Brown, CJ Newberry, and Emory Criner combined for 5 of the team’s 10 hits in their victory. They scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Emily Pees and Brayla Butler also contributed hits on the evening.

Kenton was the first to get on the board in the 2nd when Criner doubled, scoring 1 run. Wapak took the lead in the top of the 5th, making it 3-1. The Wildcats responded in the bottom of the 5th thanks to a single by Butler, and a walk by Macee Heckathorn. An error gave the Redskins the lead in the top of the 6th. Criner doubled after a 6-pitch at bat, which helped the Wildcats tie the game at 4 in the bottom of the 6th.

Butler earned the win for Kenton allowing 13 hits and 4 runs (3 earned) over 9 innings, striking out 7 and walking 5. Butler and Emily pees each stole multiple bases for a team total of 7 stolen bases in the game.

It was a great senior night with a fun softball atmosphere where the community came out to support the team on their last game this season at home. The Wildcats take on St. Mary’s away on Tuesday.
