Betty L. Bayes, a vibrant soul whose laughter echoed through the hearts of many, departed this world on October 2, 2024, at Altercare in Bucyrus, OH. Born on November 3, 1939, in Dunkirk, OH, Betty’s spirit was as beautiful as her photogenic smile, which could warm the coldest of days.
Throughout her life, Betty embodied the essence of community and togetherness, cherishing the moments spent with friends and family. Betty graduated from Hardin Northern Class of 1957. A retiree of Burn’s International Security in Columbus, she dedicated her work to safeguarding others, mirroring the protectiveness she showed her beloved family. Her friendly, social, and outgoing personality attracted many towards her, creating bonds that instilled joy and kindness in all who knew her.
Betty was deeply engaged in the fabric of her community, proudly enjoying her membership with Amvet’s Post #20 and the Eagle’s Lodge #2163 in Kenton, OH. These affiliations showcased her commitment to service and connection, and through these organizations, she cultivated lifelong friendships that enriched her life.
Her legacy lives on in her devoted sons, Bob (Nancy) Holtzberger of Kenton, Randy Holtzberger of Forest. She also leaves behind her cherished daughters Sharon (Loren Nichols) Grubs of Kenton, Brenda (Don Curtis) Mitchell of Forest, Jennifer (Rick) Ervin of Bucyrus, The family circle expanded with the presence of eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild, six nieces and nephews each of whom brought Betty immense pride and joy.
Though the warmth of her love embraced many, it is bittersweet to remember the absence of her dear parents, father Sylvester C. “Dick” Unkart and mother Essie Josephine (Baum) Unkart. beloved son Daniel Bayes and sister Mary Jo Holtzberger. Furthermore, her journey also intertwined with that of her divorced husbands, Clayton Holtzberger and Lowell Bayes, who were part of her life’s narrative.
A visitation to celebrate Betty’s remarkable life will take place on Sunday October 6, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Clark Shields Funeral Home in Forest. A funeral service will honor her memory on Monday October 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM, with Denny Livingston officiating also at Clark Shields Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hueston Cemetery, Forest.
