Joyce (Sams) Van Schoik 

August 9, 1932 ~ June 21, 2024 

of Dunkirk 

Joyce Nadine (Sams) Van Schoik, age 91, resident of Brookdale Senior Living , formerly of Dunkirk, passed away peacefully June 21, 2024 at 9:45 P.M. Joyce was born in Hardin County on August 9, 1932, to the late Donald Sams and Doris (McBride) (Sams) Wedertz.  Joyce grew up in Dunkirk and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1950. 

On October 26, 1950, she married Harvey Benson Van Schoik and he preceded her in death. They celebrated 66-1/2 years together.  She is also survived by a son and a daughter:  Tim (Samantha Naug) Van Schoik of Apex, NC  and Lynn Dee (Van Schoik) Schank of Findlay, OH.  There are three grandchildren; Joshua Van Schoik, of Colorado, Katherine (Van Schoik) Renaud, Chicago, IL and Sarah (Don) Burdette, Fremont, CA, three great grandchildren, Ashton Van Schoik, Lilah and Trent Burdette.  

She is survived by five half-brothers: Doyle (Sharon) Sams; David Sams; Duane Sams;  Devere Sams, and Dennis (Sue) Sams, all of Hardin County and a brother-in-law, Richard Hipsher of Findlay.  She was preceded in death by a step-father, Charles Wedertz, four sisters: Rita Jean Waltermire, N. Colleen Abbott, Iris Eileen Hipsher and Reba Charlene Sams.   

She retired from Kodak/Qualex in Findlay, OH. 

Funeral services for Joyce will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton with Pastor Gregg King officiating. Burial will follow at Dunkirk Cemetery. Friends and family may visit 2 hours prior to services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dunkirk Grace United Methodist Church, Hardin Northern Community Center, or to the donor’s choice.
