90 of Mt.Victory
Russell Kent Jeffers died on Sunday, November 3, 2019 in Kenton, Ohio. He was born on September 5, 1929 in Hale Township, Ohio, the second son of Lola and Glenn Jeffers. He graduated from Ridgeway High School. He married Janet Marie Sutherland on October 8, 1950 and she died June 4, 2018. He was the father of three children: Dr. Kevin (Anne) Jeffers of Ionia, Michigan, Kristen (Henry) Kerstetter of Canal Winchester, Ohio and Matthew (Christine) Jeffers of Mt.Victory, Ohio. He had 8 Grandchildren; Abra, Dane, Lauren, Hannah, Tess, Greg, Rachel and Isaac. 10 Great Grandchildren; Halle, Kellen, Brody, Patrick, Leland, Hudson, Julian, Wesley, Max and Brooks. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, his brother and sister in law; Bill and Charlene Jeffers, and brothers and sisters in law Donald and Elinor Powell, Neil and Imogene Sutherland, Dick and Marilyn Hehl and Joyce Clark. He is survived by nieces and nephews Gary Powell, Brian Jeffers, Sherry Heacock, Valerie Brindley, Jill Goldberg, Deb Barnes, Tobin Clark, Tammy Barach and Brent Jeffers. Nieces Cherita Jeffers and Brenda Robinson are deceased.
He was a grain farmer and raised cows, hogs and cattle. He was an active member of the Hardin County Cattlemen and was one of the original committee members who initiated the steak tent at the Hardin County Fair. In 1988 he was named Cattleman of the Year by the county organization. An active member of the Ohio Cattlemen Association, he served as treasurer for several years and as a member of the Ohio Beef Council. In 1990, he was awarded their Industry Excellence Award. Over the years, he attended National Cattlemen conventions in several states.
He was supportive of his children’s many activities in sports and 4-H. As president of the Ridgemont Athletic Boosters, he helped secure the only concession stand at the National Coon Dog Trials which raised thousands of dollars for local youth in sports. He was a longtime member of the Hardin County Farm Bureau and a member of council 37. He was a lifelong member of Ridgeway United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 8, 2019 at The Price – McElroy Funeral Home in Mt.Victory from 10:00 AM till 12:00 PM with the funeral and graveside services to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations to the Hardin County Cattlemen Association.
