The Marion Popcorn Festival has been cancelled for 2020.

The event was scheduled to take place September 10-12 in downtown Marion.

The Board of Trustees announced this morning that after careful thought and deliberation, they made the difficult decision to cancel the festival for this year.

In planning a completely safe event for visitors and volunteers while complying with all the restrictions of crowd size and social distancing, safety with food and beverage, the possibility of not having rides, and national entertainers rethinking their tours, it was determined that the challenges of holding the 2020 festival with that high degree of uncertainty is just beyond their abilities this year, according to a statement.

This would have been the 40th consecutive year for the event that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the world’s largest Popcorn Festival.

Visitors attend to enjoy their favorite food, crafts, rides and free national headline entertainment.

Organizers say the festival will return for an epic celebration September 9-11, 2021.
