Athens, Ohio – Yesterday, Colonel Charles A. Jones, Ohio State Highway Patrol superintendent, announced that Lieutenant Steven P. Daugherty, Athens Post Commander, has graduated as a member of the 295th session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on September 4th, 2025. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

The 295th session consisted of two hundred and fifty-four law enforcement officers who graduated today from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The 295th session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 49 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 20 countries, 10 members of six military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.

“The Ohio State Highway Patrol is proud of Lieutenant Daugherty’s accomplishment,” said Colonel Charles A. Jones, Patrol superintendent. “His selection to and graduation from the FBI National Academy is a testament to his dedication and leadership.”

Lieutenant Steven P. Daugherty earned his commission with the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 2003, graduating as a member of the Patrol’s 141st Academy Class. Following graduation, Lieutenant Daugherty was assigned to the Athens Post, where he remained until he joined Criminal Patrol.

Lieutenant Daugherty was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Chillicothe Post in June 2014. As a sergeant, he also served at the Athens and Jackson posts, as well as a member of the Jackson District’s Criminal Patrol.

In November 2020, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assumed the role of Jackson Post Commander. He transferred to the Athens Post in August 2021, where he remains.
