Contract negotiations between the union representing workers at Wilson Sporting Goods in Ada and the company slow as the clock ticks closer to a possible worker stoppage at the plant.

At Tuesday evening’s Ada Village Council meeting, Derek Gibson, president of CMRJB Workers United Local 1385, updated members on where things stand at this point.

He said a united workforce turned down the latest contract offer by a vote of 89 to 1 last Thursday, and they have also filed unfair labor practice charges because he said the company cut off bargaining before they were allowed to finish presenting their proposals.

Despite that, Gibson said they agreed to extend their contract for 7 days in good faith, and it is set to expire at 11:59pm this Friday, October 23.

Gibson stated that they want to continue to make footballs in Ada, but they need a fair contract first.

He urged council members to “let Wilson know to treat its workers fairly and bargain in good faith.”
