The Hancock County Park District is celebrating its 50th Birthday with hikes planned throughout the year.
According to a release, the park district was created on October 19, 1070 to meet the growing demand for public access to parks and recreation opportunities such as hiking, biking and boating.
In recognition of the milestone birthday, hikes at different parks are taking place each month leading up to an October 19 Birthday Party on Monday October 19 from 5-7pm in the Activity Barn at Litzenberg Memorial Woods.
The next hike is planned for Sunday February 16 starting at 4pm at Riverbend Recreation Area.
