Carmean to Continue as Head of Kenton City School Board

The Kenton City Schools Board of Education held its reorganizational and regular meetings Monday evening.

The first order of business was naming Doug Carmean as Board President.

Justin Dick was selected as Vice-President for 2023.

The Board will continue to meet on the third Monday of each month starting at 7pm, with the exception of the February meeting, which will start at 6.

Various committee assignments were made as well.

During the regular meeting that followed, the Board heard from Natalia Kaminska, from Poland. She took time to reflect on her year as an exchange student. She called it very beneficial.

When introducing her, Kenton High Principal Jason Jones said the exchange student program is not only beneficial to the exchange student but also to all of the students at the school.

After approving some personnel items, the Board then approved a resolution for schematic design stage requirements and submissions for the new Middle and High School building project.

As it stands now, the plan is the new building will be for grades 6 through 12, but Superintendent Chad Thrush pointed out that could possibly change down the road, ”6th grade is now an alternate, and so as long as we have the funding then 6th grade will be included in the project, but as we get down to bid day, which is not going to be till June, we find out we just don’t have the finances and we have to cut back in some areas, 6th grade will stay in the existing elementary.”

The next regular meeting will be held on February 13.
