Lung cancer remains the deadliest form of cancer for both men and women in the United States and the best chance for surviving it is early detection. That’s why OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital is holding a lung cancer screening event on Saturday August 24th.
“Early detection can save lives,” said Hiten Shah, MD, a pulmonologist at Hardin Memorial Hospital. “Especially for people with smoking history. We can screen for lung cancer and detect it at an early stage.”
According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the US, accounting for about 1 in 5 of all cancer deaths. Each year, more people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined.
Lung cancer screening is recommended for people between the ages of 50 and 80 who currently smoke or who have a 20-pack year history, meaning someone who smoked an average of one pack a day for the last 20 years or more.
The screening is happening at Hardin Memorial Hospital on Saturday, August 24th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This screening will be covered by most insurance providers and Medicare. An order is needed from your physician to participate in the screening.
Registration closes August 23rd.
To register, call: (419) 675-8181.
