The Kenton City Council met for its 17th regular session of 2024 Monday evening. During the meeting, Safety Service Director Cindy Murray reported that the portable water tanks that have been placed around the city will soon be tested. This testing is in preparation for the planned draining of the city’s main water tower, which is scheduled for maintenance.

Later some housekeeping ordinances and resolutions were passed and the contentious ordinance 24-022 was read for the second time. After the reading, the Spearman family and Mark Coffman once again addressed council as representatives of the opposing petition signed by families near the property county commissioners are asking the city to rezone to a manufacturing district. The property has been farmed for many years and is currently zoned for residential use. It was revealed at a public hearing that despite the current residential zoning no effort was made to advertise it as such to potential buyers and it was instead initially advertised for manufacturing.

Council will meet again September 23rd.
