Mary Dickinson with the Kenton Rotary Club, welcomed Nanette Pfeiffer and Mike Shuster from the Hardin County Sheriff’s office Volunteers In Police Service VIPS group.

This group of sixteen working and retired individuals, support the Sheriff and his duties in the county.  The VIPS pick up tasks that free up deputies so they can keep the community safe.

Some of the services the VIPS perform are delivering papers to the courthouse, house checks, arranging CCW classes, senior watch program, traffic control, searching for the missing and working at the Hardin County Fair while more recently helping out at the dog shelter. In addition, the VIPS assist behind the scenes with DARE and Shop with a Cop.

These essential tasks save the Sheriff between $80,000 and $100,000, annually.

If you are interested in becoming a VIPS, you must be aged 21 years or older, a Hardin County resident, complete the Sheriff’s Academy, a 7-week program to learn all about the Sheriff’s office, pass a background check, and pay a small fee.

The VIPS are always looking for diverse people to join.
