Kenton City Council voted to table an ordinance that was up for third reading its meeting Monday evening.

Ordinance number 24-32, which would amend and restate a Kenton codified section relating to water accounts in the city was tabled for a minimum of 35 days, which would be the first meeting in Janaury of 2025 and a maximum of 64 days, which would be the first meeting in February.

This will give the utility committee time to work in tandem with the interested parties, including the landlords and in conjunction with city Law Director John Schwemmer.

City Council member David Beazley said that is so they don’t, “step over the bounds necessary.”

A number of landlords in the city have expressed their concern for the original ordinance that would change the way water accounts are billed from tenants to property owners.

All sides expressed their desire to come up with legislation that is equitable for the city and property owners.

The last regular session of the year is set for December 23 in the City Building.
