Ada Teenager Identified as Victim in Fatal Bicycle/Semi Crash

A 17 year old Ada boy has been identified as the victim of the fatal crash involving a bicycle and semi early this morning on State Route 235 near Alger.

According to a release from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at just after 5 this (Wednesday) morning reporting a bicyclist possibly being struck by a semi traveling north on 235.

Responding deputies were able to locate the bicycle and rider, later identified as Jayden Elwood, off the east side of the roadway, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi, which continued from the scene, was later stopped south of the Kenton city limits.

The driver, 51 year old Thomas M. Carl, of Harrod, acknowledged that he had been operating the semi on 235 and said he believed that he had struck an animal. After stopping to look for damage and for what may have been struck, he proceeded from the scene after not observing anything or anyone.

The crash remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by the Kenton Police Department, Upper Scioto Valley EMS and the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.
