Ada Teenager Killed Monday in Crash on State Route 81

An Ada teenager was killed in a two vehicle crash that occurred around 5:30 Monday evening at the intersection of State Route 81 and County Road 65.

According to a release from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, 18 year old Alex Sweigart was driving east on 81 when a box truck being operated by 28 year old Walter L. Coles III, of Columbus, pulled into his path from a stop sign  on 65.

Sweigart was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in his car, Garret Rettig was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima with non-life threatening injuries.

Coles was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The Multi County Crash Investigation Team, Ada Police Department, Ada-Liberty Fire, Ada EMS, Bluffton EMS and the Hardin County Coroner’s Office all assisted at the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
