A semi slammed into a historic building Tuesday morning in Marion County.

The Marion Star reported that 54 year old Steven Varney, of Ada, lost control of the vehicle while driving north on State Route 4.

The semi went off the right side of the road, travelled across a driveway where it struck a fence, tree and guide wire and came to rest after crashing into the Linn School Building.

Varney was transported to Marion General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was cited for failure to control.

The building was built in 1897 and operated as a one-room schoolhouse until 1942.

It was rededicated in 2004 after extensive restoration and is being used as a museum where kids visit to learn about the past, and what education was like more than 100 years ago.

Several activities have been cancelled until the damage is repaired.
