Alger Village Council at this week’s meeting voted to increase the village’s water bills by $10 a month.
Council Member Mike Miller stated that the money is needed to cover current expenses at the water plant.
Another increase likely will be needed, and will be revisited in the future.
Miller is hoping the next increase will not be as much.
The motion nearly died for lack of a second, but Council member Richard Onions made the second.
Onions stated he hesitated because he felt the increase wasn’t enough and was in favor of a $20 increase, but fellow council members considered that too steep.
The $10 increase will generate just over $4100 a month to help the village maintain services at the plant.
