A Toledo television station has filmed a documentary about the deaths of Hardin County service members at the Battle of Munda during World War II.

On July 30th starting at 7:00pm at the Hardin County Armory, the film will be shown with a panel discussion afterwards.

This event is open to the public.

The fight for a Japanese-controlled airstrip in the Solomon Islands of the Pacific Ocean 75 years ago left the Ohio Army National Guard soldiers of the 148th Infantry Regiment’s Company E trapped under fire and out of ammunition, with no water and little food or medical supplies to help them stay alive.

By the time World War II’s Battle of Munda ended on Aug. 5, 1943, 16 of Company E’s men were dead; nine were from Hardin County.

The documentary will be shown on WGTE in Toledo on August 1st at 8:30pm.
