Beach Boys to Perform at All Ohio Balloon Festival

Don’t Worry Baby, the Beach Boys will be playing The All Ohio Balloon Festival this year.

Festival officials announced Friday that The Beach Boys, one of America’s most iconic bands, will headline Thursday evening’s entertainment as part of the 2023 balloon festival.

The band was scheduled to headline the All Ohio Balloon Fest in 2020 before the pandemic canceled the show.

“We are so happy to be able to bring The Beach Boys to Marysville,” All Ohio Balloon Fest Organizer Kevin Behrens said. “We heard from so much of the community in 2020 that wanted to have them here. The response that year was more than we could have even imagined.”

He said that when the show was canceled, “it was one of the most difficult decisions we have ever made, not because it wasn’t the right thing, but because it would have been great for the community.”

Behrens said he could not have dreamed this opportunity would come around a second time.

“When we got a second chance to book them, we felt like it was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up,” Behrens said.

The Beach Boys will perform Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023.

Behrens said the first concert he ever attended was The Beach Boys at the Ohio State Fair in 1983.

“I have a great memory of The Beach Boys and the concert and I know my dad is really excited to see them here in town this summer,” Behrens said.
He added, “The Beach Boys will be the most recent in a long line of national acts that have appeared as part of the balloon festival’s concert series.”

Rolling Stone lists The Beach Boys 12th on its list of Greatest Artists of all time and Billboard magazine lists them as “one of the most famous pop bands of all time.”
Founded in Hawthorne, California in 1961, The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and has received the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award.

With more than 100 million albums sold, The Beach Boys continue to be one of Billboard/Nielsen SoundScan’s top-selling American bands for albums and singles, and they are also the American group with the most Billboard Top 40 chart hits (36).

The band’s 1966 album “Pet Sounds” is listed by Billboard magazine as the second greatest album of all time.

The band has four number one hits — “I Get Around,” “Help Me Rhonda,” “Good Vibrations,” and “Kokomo” — as well as 15 songs that appeared in Billboard’s Top 10 — “Barbara Ann,” “Surfin U.S.A.,” “California Girls,” “Sloop John B,” “Rock and Roll Music,” “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “Be True to Your School,” “Surfer Girl,” “Dance, Dance, Dance,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and “When I Grow Up.”

Their chart toppers, along with favorites like “Wipeout,” “Do You Want to Dance,” “Surfin’ Safari,” “Little Deuce Coup,” “In My Room,” “Don’t Worry Baby,” “God Only Knows,” “California Dreamin’,” “409,” “Let Me Wonder,” has become the soundtrack of summer.

The first 500 general admission tickets will sell for $20.99, plus processing fee, and will be available first for Marysville Journal-Tribune subscribers beginning at 9 a.m., Monday, at the Journal-Tribune office, 207 N. Main St., Marysville. Tickets will go on sale to the public, at the Journal-Tribune office or at AllOhioBallonFest.com, beginning next week.

Preferred seats, in rows 3-20, will sell for $100. VIP opportunities, which include tickets to a seat in the front two rows, will be sold for $200. Preferred seats and VIP options are available while supplies last.

The All-Ohio Balloon Fest runs Aug. 10-12, 2023 at the Union County Airport.
