Bellefontaine City Schools Swept Top Honors in Logan County Spelling Bee

The 2022 Logan County Spelling Bee was held Thursday night, and Bellefontaine City Schools swept top honors in the competition.

Bellefontaine Middle School eighth-grader Max Fissel was crowned champion.

Fissel spelled “cantonese” to advance to the championship word.

He then spelled “poultice” to win the title.

Fissel is the son of Mark & Stephanie Fissel.

Bellefontaine Intermediate School fifth-grader Blakely Vollrath was runner-up.

She is the daughter of Ben & Jacey Vollrath.

The annual competition went 14 rounds, including a three-round spell-off.

The spelling bee featured twelve students from Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan, Indian Lake, and Riverside.

The Midwest Regional Educational Service Center hosted the spelling bee.

Erica Baer was the emcee.

Shawn McElroy, Cammie Honaker, and Andrea Watts served as judges.
