Bicyclist Struck and Killed Near Alger this Morning

An early morning crash resulted in the death of an unidentified bicyclist early this morning near Alger.

According to a release from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at just after 5 this morning reporting a bicyclist was possibly struck by a semi on State Route 235 near County Road 80 north of Alger.

Responding deputies located the bicycle and rider off the east side of the road.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi continued from the scene and was later stopped south of the Kenton City limits.

The driver said he thought he hit an animal and stopped to look for damage and for what he may have hit.

After not being able to locate anything or anyone, he proceeded from the scene.

The identity of the bicyclist is unknown. Anyone who may have information that may help identify him is asked to contact the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, 419-673-1268, option 0.

The crash remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by the Kenton Police Department, Upper Scioto Valley EMS and the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.
