WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of the Interior Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has awarded a grant of $5,038,141 to Ohio for outdoor recreation and conservation projects across the state.

“Ohioans depend on access to parks and public lands for outdoor recreation, community events, and local jobs,” said Brown. “This Land and Water Conservation Fund grant will support Ohio economies and protect our natural resources for future generations.”

Brown has long to fought to support LWCF, securing a provision in the Natural Resources Management Act, which was signed into law in March, to permanently reauthorize funds for the program. The bill also created 1.3 million acres of new wilderness lands, establishes five new national monuments, and expands several major national parks.

The U.S. Department of the Interior’s LWCF was established in 1964 as a congressional investment in outdoor recreation resources, providing accessibility and funding to public lands that benefit American citizens. The program uses no taxpayer dollars, instead funding state-identified conservation and recreation projects through earnings from offshore oil and gas leasing.

Senator Sherrod Brown is a cosponsor of the Land and Water Conservation Funding Act in July of 2019 to continue support for the LWCF.
