Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay announced Wednesday that they are discontinuing the open-heart surgery procedure.

According to a release, the decision helps the hospital increase its emphasis on preventative and interventional cardiovascular services and prioritize quality care.

Discontinuing open-heart surgery concludes a service that started nearly two decades ago at the hospital.

Here is the statement from the BVH:

Service Line Update – Cardiovascular Care

Today, we announced that we will increase our emphasis on preventative and interventional cardiovascular services, while discontinuing the open-heart surgery procedure. We progressed through a communication plan that was equal parts careful and comprehensive, and all BVHS associates received the message below. While difficult, this decision helps BVHS evolve with recent cardiovascular trends and prioritizes quality care.

This concludes a service that started nearly two decades ago, but it also marks the beginning of bright years ahead for cardiovascular care at the Jane & Gary Heminger HeartCare Center. We are expanding our other offerings, while deepening the partnerships that help us offer a unique value proposition to our community. As always, we are driving to the future, aligning with new developments in medicine and inspired by the patients we are yet to serve.

If you have any questions, certainly feel free to contact me directly. I appreciate your support, as we continue driving to the future.
