CarFit, an educational program developed by AAA, AARP, and the American Occupational Therapy Association, provides information and resources on how older drivers can enhance their safety in the driver’s seat.

Kimberly Schwind, the Assistant Director of the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, talks about why older drivers are targeted, “They are more likely to be injured or killed in a crash because of age related frailties, and so CarFit takes a look at certain aspects of how we fit in the vehicle to help to make them more comfortable and also to help reduce that risk of injury or death if they were involved in a crash.”

Currently the program is limited in Ohio, but Angie Wise, Ohio Statewide CarFit Coordinator, said she is working to expand it, “I am hosting lots of different training throughout the State of Ohio in an effort to get more technicians and event coordinators so that we can bring CarFit to more Ohioans.”
