Columbus Man Killed in Union County Crash Sunday

A Columbus man was killed in a one vehicle crash that occurred in Union County Sunday evening.

According to a release from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of a car failed to negotiate a curve while traveling east on Middleburg Plain City Road.

The car ended up off the road where it struck a tree and rolled over.

32 year old Alan J. Mello, of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another person in the car was taken by Medflight to Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. 

She was listed in critical condition this morning. Her identity has not yet been released.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be a factor in the crash at this time and it does not appear the victims were wearing seat belts. 

Middleburg Plain City Road was closed for approximately five hours and the crash remains under investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
