Company Announces Plans for Cole Motor Site in Ada

Entrepreneurs Billy Watterson and Troy Erickson to transform the historic Cole Motor Company building

BLUFFTON, SC – Watterson Brands is pleased to announce the acquisition of the former Cole Motor Company building, 120 East Buckeye in downtown Ada, Ohio. After purchase, former Ada resident Billy Watterson, CEO of Watterson Brands; and native business owner Troy Erickson, COO of Ohio State Hemp, have plans to renovate the existing structure and bolster the local economy with the 7,000 square-foot Old Route 69 Brewery, offering patrons distinctive craft beer, food, and family-inclusive entertainment.

The owners expect to break ground on Old Route 69 Brewery later this spring, with an estimated completion date early next year. The brewery will offer 5 craft beers upon launch and is expected to employ about 20 people. Total occupancy for the brewery will be determined in the forthcoming months.

“Ada’s evolution presents an interesting opportunity for our new business to thrive while providing a venue with the entertainment capacity of a larger city. Our aim is to become a destination for the region, a gathering space where high quality food and beverages are only out-matched by charm,” said Watterson.

The two entrepreneurs, who are also lifelong friends, have spent the last 3 years developing their business plan for Old Route 69 Brewery while searching for the ideal site for development. The 2019 close of the Cole Motor Company, which was operational for 113 years, presented an opportunity to carry on the tradition of local business ownership at this location.

“Billy and I grew up in Ada and want to pay tribute to the close-knit community that shaped our vision and values. Our plans include an indoor lounge, bar and seated dining areas, and a separate brewery manufacturing space. The outdoor area will be more of a traditional beer garden, and will be available for private parties,” said Erickson.
