First responders in Logan County held a press conference at around 10:30 this morning to give an update on the widespread damage caused by a tornado that struck the area Thursday evening.

Logan County Sheriff Randall Dodds said the damage was devastating, “The Orchard Island area, the Lakeview area, the Midway area. I would tell you that we conducted searches last night looking for injured people. I would tell you right now that we have three known fatalities. I will not get into names, ages, that type of thing. That will come later because we have to notify next of kin.”

For those in need in that area, the Sheriff said, “If you need food and those types of things, Indian Lake High School, there’s donations being taken down there. You can respond down there to get those donations.”

Governor Mike DeWine is expected to tour the area this afternoon, and Jon Cross, who represents the area in the Ohio House of representatives said the state’s support will be needed, “We’re going to rebuild Indian Lake, and it is so important as I talked to both the Speaker of the House and the Governor, that we’re going to be really focused on making sure that we can get funding available to get this lake open and ready for the summertime, to help communities rebuild, help small businesses get back on their feet, help homeowners, any help that they need, we’re going to make this a priority to make sure they have the funding and the support so we can get Indian Lake back on its feet and enjoy a great summer here.”

Again, for those displaced and in need of shelter, food and other items, the Indian Lake School is open as a shelter at this time.
