After a conference call with Kroger regional management, it was announced that the decision by Kroger to close the Kenton location is final.

It was carefully considered before any announcements were made to the public.

The company actually delayed their plans to close the location for several months in response to COVID-19 at a time when their products and services were more important than ever.

Kroger officials shared that many of the rumors and speculation that have been circulating regarding the reasons for their decision to close this location are simply not true.

They said the location has not been meeting profit goals for several years, and the decision to close was made in the interest of their investors.

The last day for the store is scheduled for October 30.

Kroger owns the gas station property, and they are hoping to find a buyer for it.

Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance staff, City of Kenton Government, the Hardin County Commissioners and the owner of the Kenton store property are working to recruit a new grocer to Kenton.

Here is the complete announcement posted on the City of Kenton Government Facebook page:

UPDATE: After a conference call with Kroger regional management, we have this update to share:

The decision by Kroger to close the Kenton location is final. It was carefully considered before any announcements were made to the public. They actually delayed their plans to close the location for several months in response to COVID-19 – in an effort to serve and support our community in a time that their products and services were more important than ever.

They shared with us that many of the rumors and speculation that had been circulating regarding the reasons for their decision to close this location are simply not true, and that the location has not been meeting profit goals for several years. The decision was made in the interest of their investors.

Kroger has worked hard to take care of their Kenton team, and while it’s not a perfect situation, we appreciate their dedication to their employees through the offer of transfers or support in the search for new employment.

The Alliance staff, City of Kenton Government, the Hardin County Commissioners and the owner of the Kenton store property are collaborating and working diligently to recruit a new grocer to Kenton.

We hope to find a store brand that can be profitable and fit in the mix with our other food retailers in the area.

Our first priorities in our search are stores that are known for their meat, produce and dairy, as we know that these are some of the things that our shoppers loved the most about Kroger.

We hope to be able to share more details and good news with you all soon.
