A man who was arrested over Labor Day weekend in Dunkirk was arraigned Tuesday in Hardin County Municipal Court.

Anthony Browne was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing official business after he was taken into custody following a brief stand-off with deputies from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office at his house on Cherry Street in Dunkirk.

Browne pleaded not guilty to the charges and Judge Greg Grimslid set bond at $10,000 cash or surety.

Browne posted the bond and was released from Multi County Jail Tuesday evening.

A hearing on the case was set for September 22.

In the meantime, Browne is facing a charge of menacing, which was filed in July of 2022, for allegedly making a threat to kill someone.

He pleaded not guilty to that charge and a trial is scheduled to start October 28 in Municipal Court.

Sheriff Keith Everhart said this morning that Browne remains a person of interest in the investigation into the shooting death of Richard Whitaker Jr. over Labor Day Weekend.

Sheriff Everhart added they have a few other persons of interest as well, and he said the investigation is ongoing and a top priority for the Sheriff’s Office.
