Two fuel tanks that were jettisoned by an F-16 Fighter Jet landed in a field in western Hardin County Sunday morning.

According to the Media Report from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, a caller in the 16,000 block of State Route 235 reported that he believed two military tanks “fell out of the sky, and one of them was in his field.”

He stated that he “believed the tanks were empty, but he could smell gas.”

The call was received at 10:25 Sunday morning.

Media outlets from Toledo reported that a fighter jet experienced an in-flight emergency while on a routine training mission.

The aircraft landed safely back at the 180th Fighter Wing’s base at Toledo Express Airport.

A deputy stopped at the residence later and discovered that the military retrieved the tanks and took samples of the soil.

There were no injuries, and no cause for concern with the soil in the area.

The cause of the in-flight emergency is under investigation.
