Four Arrested in Connection with Breaking and Entering, Firearm Theft from Rural King in Marion

Detectives assigned to the MARMET Drug Task Force were requested to take the primary role in the theft of firearms from Rural King that occurred on November 22, 2024. MARMET detectives were assisted by deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s office and officers from the Marion Police Department in this investigation.

On December 5, 2024, with the assistance and cooperation of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the first target of the investigation, Daquail Rogers, was apprehended in Columbus, Ohio without incident. A search warrant was also sought and granted in Franklin County, resulting in the search of a residence in the City of Columbus. Evidence relevant to the theft of firearms from Rural King was obtained, along with possible evidence relevant to other active cases being investigated by the Marion City Police Department Detective Bureau.

Arriving back in Marion, MARMET Detectives conducted a search of three additional properties in the City of Marion, two of which were completed after search warrants were granted. During these two search warrants, one of the stolen rifles from Rural King was able to be recovered, evidence linking persons to the crime, and admissions by two of the suspects as to their involvement.

On December 6, 2024, MARMET Detectives began conducting surveillance on an additional target of the investigation, Todd Coleman Jr. Todd was observed leaving his residence, a traffic stop was conducted, and Todd was taken into custody without incident. During the traffic stop, a search warrant for his residence was obtained, leading to the collecting of additional evidence to the Rural King Breaking & Entering.

At the end of the day on December 6th, MARMET Detectives were able to recover the second stolen firearm from Rural King, along with valuable information and evidence linking persons to this crime.

Daquail Rogers, Todd Coleman Jr, and two 17-year-old juveniles were arrested without incident and are being held on two counts of theft of a firearm (felony of the 1st degree) and breaking and entering (felony of the 5th degree) charges.

“This case shows the incredible cooperation between the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion Police Department, and the great work that can be done by working as a team with a common goal. Great work done by these great officers and deputies to solve this case!” said Sheriff Matt Bayles.

“I am proud of the work put into this investigation by these law enforcement officers. A very serious crime has been solved and evidence was obtained that may prove useful in solving additional crimes was located as well” said Marion Police Chief Jay McDonald.

This case is still being investigated, additional arrests may be made and/or evidence collected. This case will be turned over to Marion County Prosecutor Raymond Grogan and his office for formal charges.

The MARMET Drug Task Force is made up of members of the Marion City Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marion County Prosecutors Office.
