The Hardin County Commissioners approved a Solar Farm Pilot Program agreement at Thursday’s meeting.

The Payment in Lieu of Taxes agreement is based on the projected generation of electricity in the solar farm which is rated at 320 megawatts.

The PILOT for Hardin County is set at $9000 total. $2000 of that will go directly to the county’s general fund, and the other $7000 will be divided among the taxing entities that are affected by the location of the solar farm.

“What that translates out to is $640,000 a year that will go directly to the county general fund and then 2.24 million dollars, which will be distributed to all of the taxing entities, such as schools, fire departments, ambulances and townships. All of those entities are going to get their share of that over two million dollars, and that’s an annual payment that is made regardless of how many megawatts they actually generate. That’s what they’re name plated for, and so that’s what they pay every year.”

The resolution was passed 3-0 at Thursday’s regular meeting.
