The Hardin County Retired Teacher Association is offering a $500 scholarship to any current Hardin County Teacher who is teaching in Ada, Hardin Northern, Kenton, Ridgemont, Upper Scioto Valley, or Riverdale Schools. This scholarship has been provided by the family of Evelyn Lotz, a former teacher in Hardin County, at her request.

There are two reasons for which a current teacher may apply for the $500 scholarship.1. While he or she is furthering coursework of educational requirements from the state of Ohio, the main goal will be to complete whatever course(s) in order to stay in the classroom to teach. 2. The HCRTA does understand that active teachers have projects that provide substance to objectives which help the students learn easier or with better clarity. HCRTA also realizes that a teacher planned project may need extra funds that the school administration cannot provide within their budget. This scholarship can be used for necessary materials and/or educational equipment that might be used by any teacher at the winner’s school each year following the specific project.

For those who are completing coursework, the funds will be dispersed when proof of enrollment and tuition costs are presented along with the application and recommendations from an administrator and fellow teacher. For those who are working on a project to complete objectives in their assigned course or grade level, should state materials or equipment needed. A listing of the process or time frame should be included. There should be an administrator’s and fellow teacher’s recommendation for completing the project. Once the project is completed, HCRTA would expect a presentation of what was learned by the teacher and her/his class at one of HCRTA noon meetings. The project should be completed in the 2019-2020 school year.

The scholarship application and recommendation sheets should be submitted by May 17, 2019. These specific papers have been sent to each of Hardin County Superintendents or ask for them at the librarian’s desk at any county library (Ada, Dunkirk, Kenton, Forest, Alger, Mt. Victory, or Ridgeway) in order to make copies. HCRTA will contact the winning recipient by June 1, 2019. The summer’s year end meeting and luncheon on Friday, June 21, would be the introduction of the winning recipient to both the membership and media. The luncheon will be in the basement fellowship room of Walnut Grove UMC at 13502 T.R. 80 (on US 68 N), Kenton at noon.

Hardin County Retired Teacher Association Practicing Educator Scholarship forms need to be submitted to either Sandra Moore at 15167 Co. Rd. 219, Mt. Victory, OH 43340, or Norma Frederick at 318 N. Barron St., Kenton, OH 43326.
