The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office was contacted over the Memorial Day weekend about a possible scam.
A resident was sent a check purportedly from a business in Montana; and then given information by phone on the procedure to deposit it and what to do after that.
An enclosed check was sent via the United States Postal Service in a large envelope.
If you receive a check like that or if a transaction involves circumstances unknown to you – be careful.
The Sheriff’s Office advised residents to follow the saying that if it seems or looks too good to be true, it is too good to be true.
