The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office has received a report of a likely scam this week in which a person received a receipt by email, purportedly for items purchased from Amazon.

The person receiving the email had no knowledge of purchasing items.

When the recipient calls to investigate, they reached an unidentified “call center” where they are encouraged to purchase a $500 Amazon gift card; and then provide the gift card number to the call center in order to provide “protection” for preventing this type of activity from occurring again.

Beware of any such emails or calls that you might receive concerning a supposed purchase about which you have no knowledge.

Purchasing and/or providing gift cards and their numbers or providing any personal information to anyone you do not know or know about, is strongly discouraged.
