Hardin Northern Hosts Soils Competition

The Hardin Northern FFA Chapter hosted a Soils contest at the Crooks’ Family Farm on September 18th. 16 schools attended the contest including Kenton, Ridgemont, Hardin Northern and USV from Hardin County. There were 127 Urban Soils participants and 183 Rural Soils participants making a total of 311 judgers.
Hardin Northern placed 1st among the county schools in both Rural and Urban contests. Overall, the Rural team placed 3rd out of 46 teams and the Urban team placed 4th out of 33 teams.
The Rural team consisted of Renee Newton, Luke Wilson, Lance Good, Zeb Wilson and Owen Wetherill. Out of 183 participants, Renee Newton finished 7th, Luke Wilson finished 12th, Lance Good finished 16th, Zeb Wilson finished 20th, and Owen Wetherill 25th.
The Urban team consisted of Welsey Newton, Maddie Grappy, Bella WIlson, Leif Trachsel, and Preston Wykes. Out of 127 judgers, Wes Newton finished 10th, Bella Wilson finished 13th, Maddie Grappy finished 19th, Leif Trachsel finished 47th, and Preston Wykes finished 60th. All members of the Urban team are first year members.
We would like to thank Mr. Andy Wilson for coaching the teams and dedicating his time! We would also like to thank the Senior Ag Class for spending their day organizing, monitoring, and grading over 1200 papers.The Hardin Northern FFA was very impressed with this years turnout.
