The Hardin Northern school district was informed last week that one of their students tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Kenton-Hardin Health Department was contacted immediately and the district began to identify students who may have been in close contact with the infected student.

Close contact, as defined by the Health Department, is less than 6 feet for approximately 15 minutes or more.

There were students identified by teachers and staff as potentially meeting that standard and those student names were provided to the Health Department, which then undertook the task of contacting the students and parents to gather additional information.

A preliminary investigation of the situation shows the district has been following approved protocols.

However, the district will use this experience to review the procedures in place and reiterate to students the importance of following them.
