One person was injured in a house fire that occurred to start Easter weekend.
According to information from the Kenton Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the 100 block of Silver Street at just past midnight on March 30.
An off duty Kenton firefighter happened to be in the area and found an occupant of the residence outside who confirmed there was still someone trapped inside.
The off duty firefighter, who wishes to remain anonymous, with no structural firefighting gear, located the room that the occupant was trapped in and attempted a rescue but was ultimately forced to retreat due to intense heat and heavy smoke.
At that time, Engine 71 arrived and the off duty firefighter was able to direct the crew to the victim.
Firefighters removed the victim, and he was taken by BKP EMS to Hardin Memorial Hospital and later flown by helicopter to an undisclosed hospital.
Crews began extinguishing the well involved house once the victim was removed.
They were on the scene for around six hours.
The condition of the victim is unknown at this time and the fire will remain under investigation by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office.
