High Wind Gust Flips Plane Landing at Union County Airport

A pilot escaped injury in a crash at the Union County Airport Thursday afternoon.

 

According to a release from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, a 9-1-1 call reported the crash near the runway at the airport.

 

As the Cessna single engine plane was landing, it was forced off the runway by a strong wind gust and flipped upside down. The nose of the plane dug into the ground.

 

The pilot, identified as 21 year old David J. Downing, of Zanesville, was not injured.

 

The Marysville Police and Fire Departments assisted at the scene.

 

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the crash and was expected at the Union County Airport today to continue the investigation.
