This year’s Hardin Northern 8th Grade American History class engaged in a new project based learning assignment that focuses on the analysis of patriotism and the impact it has on bringing Americans together.
Students are learning five different patriotic songs and their historical backgrounds during the course of the year.
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to perform the songs at a variety of events during the school year.
8th graders will also be teaching the songs to 5th graders in the spring and will be working with other teachers and students in order to create a cross-curricular project environment.
More projects will be featured during Hardin Northern’s upcoming Project Based Learning Showcase night.
Here is the complete write-up from the Hardin Northern Facebook page:
This year our 8th Grade American History class has engaged in a new project based learning assignment that focuses on the analysis of patriotism and the impact it has on bringing Americans together. Students are learning five different patriotic songs during the course of the year and their historical backgrounds. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to perform these specific songs at a variety of events during the school year. 8th graders will also be teaching these songs to 5th graders in the spring and will be working with other teachers and students in order to create a cross-curricular project environment. An example of this project took place last Saturday at the boys varsity basketball game vs Vanlue. The 8th grade boys basketball team performed “My Country Tis of Thee,” while Mr. Reeves and juniors Preston Grappy and Justin Thiel demonstrated the famous “Missing Man Plane Formation” by utilizing the skills they have developed through HN’s drone program. Please be sure to check out more of the Patriotism project during HN’s PBL Showcase night.
