Homegoing Celebration for Pastor Wayne Thomas Vaughn Sr

Wayne Thomas “Tip” Vaughn Sr was born April 24, 1948 to William Harrison Vaughn Sr. and Robbie Lee (Fields) Vaughn in Lima, OH. The youngest of 9 children, he accepted Christ at the tender age of 9 and was baptized at 4th Street Baptist Church in Lima, OH. Wayne excelled academically & athletically at Lima Senior High School.

After high school, he attended college briefly before being drafted into the US Army. As a proud Vietnam War Veteran, Wayne served with the 1st Calvary Air Division from 1968 – 1970.

Upon his honorable discharge, he graduated from Ohio State Barber Academy in Columbus, OH. He remained a barber for over 40 years.

In addition to barbering, he worked for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services as a Vet Rep and retired after 15 years of stellar service.

He accepted his call to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and became an ordained minister about 25 years ago. Always “too blessed, to be stressed,” he made sure to spread the gospel wherever he went.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 51 years, Marlene Vaughn. 4 sons Shawn (Leona) Spivey of Piqua, OH, Kevin (Corrina) Vaughn of Racine, WI, Keith (Michelle) Vaughn of St. Louis, MO & Wayne (Laura) Vaughn Jr. of Indianapolis, IN. 1 daughter Marlette Vaughn of Kenton, OH. 2 brothers William Harrison Vaughn II of Lady Lake, FL & Don (Janice) Vaughn of Middletown, OH. 14 grandsons, 10 granddaughters and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents William Harrison Vaughn Sr and Robbie Lee (Fields) Vaughn. 2 brothers, Robert Fields and Walter (Baba A Zirikote) Fields; 4 Sisters, Martha Kate Fields, Fannie Laura (Fields) Cooper, Mary Lou Fields and Hazel (Fields) Copeland McDonald.

He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at St. John’s Evangelical Church, 211 E. Carrol St, Kenton. Funeral services will start at 1:00pm on Tuesday following the visitation at the church.  Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery with military honors by the Amvets Post 1994 Honor Guard.
