While hunters in Hardin, Wyandot and Marion Counties got a full three week head start, hunting season begins statewide this weekend.

The three counties are in the Disease Surveillance Area as wildlife officials track Chronic Wasting Disease in the deer population.

Hardin County Wildlife Officer Ryan Kennedy said hunters play an important role in the tracking process, “we need their participation, especially for our three counties that make up our Disease Surveillance Area. We need their participation. We’re relying on them as we go through and we monitor this disease, we need these hunters out there, killing the deer, submitting those heads for testing, that’s the only way we’re going to be able to track where this thing is moving.”
