Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted, who serves as Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, yesterday announced the results of the September TechCred application period, in which 597 employers were awarded, providing the opportunity for Ohioans to earn 7,421 tech-focused credentials.
“With TechCred everybody wins – employers get a more skilled workforce and their employees earn skills that give them more job security,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “If you are an Ohio employer looking to upskill your employees, I encourage you to join the thousands of other companies across the state who use this great program.”
TechCred helps businesses meet their workforce needs by training current and future employees with skills that are essential for a technology-driven economy, such as artificial intelligence (AI). In the most recent round, AI credentials were the most requested, with 1,300 awarded. As AI becomes increasingly important for the future workforce, educators are also benefiting from TechCred. In this round, 62 schools across Ohio received funding to help their teachers gain new AI skills.
“The DeWine-Husted administration is committed to ensuring the next generation of Ohio’s workforce has the skills they need to thrive in their careers,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “TechCred empowers employers to upskill employees, while also helping Ohioans achieve their own goals. It is another example of how we are investing in our state’s future.”
“Through nearly 30 rounds of awards, the TechCred program has proven to be a winning formula for our employers, their workers, and our state,” said Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey. “The credentials earned ensure that our workforce has the skills to keep Ohio moving forward.”
The next application period for Ohio employers will open January 2, 2025 and will close on January 31, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. Individuals and training providers interested in learning more about the program, and to find the 2025 application period calendar, can visit TechCred.Ohio.gov.
