The Kenton City School’s Board of Education met Monday evening.

Treasurer Jill Smith presented the district’s five-year forecast.

She informed board members that from now through 2029, they will not be in deficit spending.

She noted that the district will be adding to its cash carry-over year to year, but she said salary negotiations that will come during the last three years of the forecast have not been factored in and that has the potential to cut into the district’s bottom line, but all in all finances for Kenton are looking really well.

Smith stated that one concern is in the area of real estate taxes.

If the legislature lowers the current 20 mill floor to 15, the district could lose at least a million dollars.

The treasurer ended her report by noting that as a result of being fiscally responsible, the Kenton City School District has not asked taxpayers for any additional operating money, which is separate from bond money, since 1995.

Smith called that an incredible story, and it looks like they are in for some good years ahead.

Also at the meeting, the Kenton Elementary School’s 4th grade Lighthouse Team gave a presentation.

Several personnel items were also approved, including a number of transfers and also volunteers for the current school year.

Two retirement resignations, one from 6th grade teacher Karen Plott and the other from bus driver Donna Augustus were approved.

Plott’s retirement is effective at the end of the school year.

The next meeting will be held on December 16.
