Kenton City Council Met Monday Evening: Roundabout Changes Proposed, Fire Hydrant Repairs Discussed

Kenton City Council met Monday evening.

Kenton Safety Service Director Cindy Murray stated that work on the city’s water tower is still planned to begin in mid-September, but they do not have a firm start date.

Plans are to drain the tower, make repairs to any small leaks and weld shut the openings on the top of the bowl that were used for cathodic protection.

The final step will be to paint the exterior of the tower.

Murray said Monday night that nine portable tanks have been placed around town.

She said they need to be charged and tested before the water can be used.

Also at the meeting, Kenton Fire Chief Bruce Donnelly said firefighters have located around 16 problematic fire hydrants around the city.

Roughly five are out of service and have been referred to the Street Department.

The other 11 are being repaired by firefighters.

David Beazley reported that the Finance Committee is working on the budget.

He said the committee will meet every two weeks prior to council meetings until they have a balanced and complete budget to put before council.

An ordinance to change the zoning of property owned by the Board of Hardin County Commissioners located south of West Lima Street and east of Jones Road from Residential 1 to General Manufacturing or M-2 was read for the first time and will be up for second reading at the next meeting.

Kenton Mayor Lynn Webb also presented an updated design for the proposed roundabout in the city.

She said the designer, Choice One, has recommended some changes for the city to consider.

Mayor Webb said residents can see and ask questions about the roundabout changes and the traffic signal study at the city’s display they will have at the Hardin County Fair.

Council will meet again on September 9th in the City Building.
