During the proceedings, Judge Grimslid joined council to present his annual Hardin County Municipal report. Grimslid shared that the numbers are consistent with previous years and added the court was operating a person short for most of the year. The judge also shared that he is eyeing retirement with his last day on the bench being December 31, 2025.
Later in the meeting, Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance President & CEO Holli Underwood presented council with an idea to create a Community Reinvestment Area, a community revitalization tool run by the Ohio Department of Development. This would be an area where property owners could receive tax relief for making improvements to property. This could be a program available to select areas or the entire city. Mayor Lynn Webb would later express her own interest in exploring this project further.
Finally, two ordinances were passed: previously covered Ordinance no. 24-006 and Ordinance 24-007. Ordinance 24-007 simply appropriates money donated to the Kenton fire and police departments for the year 2024.
The next meeting of Kenton city council will be May 13th.
