Kenton Lions Club Holds April Meeting

The Kenton Lions club held its regular meeting this past Wednesday at the Kenton Elks.

Garrett Ray, director of the Kenton Junior Trophy Bassmasters for the past 8 years, spoke to members about his program. 

He noted that 30 school-aged students signed up for this season starting in June.

Ray informed members that donations are used for prizes. 

The Lions voted to donate $500 to the group for the purchase of long sleeve T-shirts and prizes for the upcoming season.

The Kenton Lions club held its regular meeting on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024 at the Kenton Elks.

The meeting was called to order after a meal by Lion President Jason Vanbuskirk at 6:54 pm with 22 members and one guest present.

Guest Speaker:

Garrett Ray, director of the Kenton Jr. Trophy Bassmasters for the past 8 years, spoke to members about his program. With 30 school-aged students signed up for this
season starting in June, Garrett shared the fishing locations that he has been in contact with for the group to fish at. He informed members that donations are used for prizes for longest bass and participants were given tackle boxes and lures last year. This year, Garrett is going to provide long sleeve shirts to help protect participants from the sun, along with lures. He also let members know that he communicates with the group through Facebook, Jr. Trophy Bassmasters. In New Business, the Lions voted to donate $500 to the group for the purchase of long sleeve T-shirts and prizes for the upcoming season.

Old business:

Memorial Day Parade: Lion Judd Robinson reported that he has been in contact with Mayor Lynn Webb about the route due to the construction downtown. Alternate routes
have been discussed and will be decided on closer to the parade that is set for May 27th at 10:00 am. Lion Judd has also informed Police Chief Musser about the route and told members to get the word out to ball clubs, school groups and churches about participating in the parade.

Pioneer Park Report: Lion Joe Burbacher informed members that he has purchased lights for the flag pole, headstone, and memorial garden at the park. Lion Rick made a
motion to reimburse Lion Joe for the lights, with a 2nd by Lion Bill Keller. Motion Passed. Lion President Jason led discussion on rubber mulch on hand and the
purchase of more for the playing areas. The cost of Rubber Mulch is $3.61 per ton with a 5ton minimum. Lion Joe let members know that the community foundation grant
should be awarded later this month and we can move forward with some of the projects at the park, like building and installing a GaGa pit. Members discussed materials and size of the pit. Also, the removal and repair of the merry-go-round was discussed and Lion Judd said he would remove it and take it to JB tubular to have it repaired and repainted. Lion Aaron suggested planting perennials and spreading mulch around the memorials, headstone, etc. No date is set yet.

New business:

Lion Aaron suggested that members get together in May to refresh the Welcome to Kenton areas by weeding and putting some fresh mulch down. No date has been set yet and members were asked to check schedules for May.
